1st UFO finished for 2014

One UFO done!
This is a special quilt made with a jelly roll that I got from Quilts by the Bay in Galveston, TX after hurricane Ike.  It's one of the last fabrics I got from them.  I really miss that shop, so many things changed after hurricane Ike.  This quilt is for Billy Chapman and I mailed it to his grandma this week.  I hope he likes his quilt.

So this is a jelly roll quilt minus 6 strips that were kept for the binding.  There was no batting in this quilt, the quilt was backing with fleece.  Kids love the blanket feel to the quilts that are backed with it.

getting a slow start this year

I hope to make a serious dent in my UFO's this year
at this point I haven't found the UFO that I would like to be working on now
January has been very hectic and I'm ready to settle down and get some work done

YEAH!
I just found the binding strips I've been looking for for several weeks!
AWESOME!

UFO-update

ok,
I'm trying to see how many UFO's I can finish before the end of the year.
I don't really have a set goal.
I'd just like to get a few things finished.

This project was started some time ago.
I believe the block pattern came from Elaine. (if anyone has any info to add please add it in the comments)
This may have been a Galveston retreat project, it was that long ago.
I think it was called 2 from 1 or something similar.
There are leftover half square triangles if you piece the extra seam.
I had planned to use them for a flying geese border but, changed my mind.

This quilt has a fleece backing and batting.  I machine stitched the binding down for durability.
It was fun to quilt and I'm glad it done and off my list!

UFO June-a few details

ok,
the current UFO was made with unwashed fabric, the backing was unwashed and the silk batting (Hobbs Tuscany wasn't preshrunk)
before quilting the top was 90 1/2" by 106 1/2"
after quilting the quilt was 87 5/8" by 103 1/2"
after washing/drying the quilt was 83" by 100"
washing/drying details warm wash 10 minute wash-cool water rinse-dried for 30 minutes on the delicate cycle

I decided to finish this UFO to use for a summer quilt
detail from front

detail showing back and front
the pictures of the whole quilt didn't turn out well
it appears I have a lighting problem (for photographing large quilts) in this room

I'm back

I've missed blogging and working on my UFO's
I'm back
I've been working on a UFO this week
it's a top I finished some time ago
it took 3 days to get it quilted
below is a detail picture of the top
below is a picture of the quilt while I was quilting it on the longarm
I got the idea for a stack n wack using squares a few years back
it's a simple concept
I've made several quilts using this technique
